Babysitter's Training

Program Information

Ages: 11 yrs+

  

This American Red Cross course offers those who are planning to babysit the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business; keep themselves and others safe; help children behave; and learn about basic childcare & First Aid. 

Some classes will include an additional Pediatric First Aid & CPR portion.


This course offers: 

 * In-person Instruction * Hands-on practice * materials to start your babysitting business

 * activities and workbook ideas for entertaining the kids you babysit in a safe and engaging way.


Requirements to successfully complete this course: 

     1) Attend ALL class sessions 

     2) Participate in all skills sessions and activities 

     3) Demonstrate maturity and competency in all observable skills

  

Things to Bring: 

     1) Snacks and water

     2) Provided materials (given out on the first day).


Provided Materials: 

     1) Babysitter's Training Handbook 

     2) Babysitter's Training Emergency Reference Guide 

     3) Babysitter's Training CD-ROM 


Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Red Cross certificate that indicates completion of Babysitter's Training.


Class time may vary due to number of participants and participant progress.

CPR Training

Program Information

Ages: 12 yrs+

  

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond

appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.


Successful completion requires that participants 

   1) Complete all online training modules (for BL courses)

   2) Attend all class sessions

   3) Demonstrate proficiency in all skills

   4) Attain 80% on the written exams


Offerings: 

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program includes the following sections, any of which can be combined to form a course:

     * First Aid

     * CPR (Adult, Child, Infant or Pediatric)

     * AED (Adult, Child, Infant or Pediatric)


These courses are perfect for individuals and workplace settings.


Some offerings may be all Instructor-led and some may be Blended Learning marked as (BL)**.

          **BL = Blended Learning. Portions of this course will be completed at home on a computer.  

                    Other portions of this course will be done during in-person class session(s).** 


Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Red Cross certificate that indicates completion of a First Aid/CPR/AED class and is valid for 2 years.

Lifeguard Training

Program Information

Age: 15 yrs+


The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. 


This American Red Cross course trains and certifies successful participants in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.  


Successful completion requires that participants 

     1) Complete all online training modules

     2) Attend all class sessions

     3) Demonstrate proficiency in all skills

     4) Attain 80% on the written exams


**BL = Blended Learning. Portions of this course will be completed at home on a computer. Other portions of this course will be done during in-person class sessions.**


All Participants must partake in the Precourse:

     A) Students must be 15 years old by the completion of this course. 

     B) The ability to swim at least 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using front crawl and breaststroke. 

     C) The ability to tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. 

     D) Successful completion of a timed event in 1 minute, 40 seconds. The timed event requires a participant to: 

     1) Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7-10 feet, 

     2) retrieve a 10-pound object, 

     3) surface and swim 20 yards on their back with the object,

     4) exit the water without using the ladder or steps. 


Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Red Cross certificate that indicates completion of a Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED course and is valid for 2 years.
